  • Soften square corners and long, straight deck edges
  • Make room for comfortable seating and walking paths
  • Replace a worn deck with sound, new construction
  • Spend less time on staining and seasonal upkeep
  • Choose railing details that respect your outdoor views
  • Get clear material choices before making a decision

Curved Deck Layouts and Edges

Curves work best when the deck shape fits the house and yard. We plan the perimeter, gathering area, and access points together so the layout feels practical.

  • Sweeping front edges for a softer finished deck outline
  • Rounded bump-outs that create a defined seating or dining area
  • S-curve edges that follow garden beds or landscaping
  • Curved deck stairs that ease the walk into the yard
  • Multi-level layouts with curved transitions on sloped lots
  • Curves positioned to frame lake and yard views

PVC and Composite Decking Options

Not every deck board is suited to bending, so product selection matters. Hill and Harbor uses in-house heat blankets to shape compatible boards and reviews TimberTech and Trex options during design.

  • TimberTech Advanced PVC for a low-maintenance deck surface
  • Trex composite choices when suitable for the curved design
  • Heat-formed boards shaped to follow the planned edge
  • Bent picture-frame borders that outline the curve cleanly
  • Matching fascia bent to wrap the curved deck edge
  • Color and texture samples brought to your site visit
  • Clear guidance on which product lines support bending

Railings and Lighting for Curved Edges

Railings and lighting should work with the deck’s curves, stairs, and surrounding views. We plan these features as part of a new deck, not as separate installations.

  • Westbury aluminum railing for a low-upkeep finished edge
  • Cable railing options for more open Lake Superior views
  • Railing placement planned around corners, curves, and stairs
  • Trex and TimberTech lighting matched to your decking
  • Post cap lights that trace the deck’s curved outline
  • Stair lighting considered where better nighttime visibility matters
  • Material finishes chosen to complement the decking color

Curved Decks FAQs

Can composite or PVC deck boards be curved?
Some decking products can be heat-formed, but not every board is approved for bending. Hill and Harbor uses heat blankets with suitable materials. We check each product’s requirements before finalizing the design.
Curved decks can work on sloped Duluth-area lots when the structure suits the site. We review the elevations, access, and support needs. Your design shows where the deck and stairs can fit.
The curved edge needs support, just like the rest of the deck. A flat frame also helps finished boards lie evenly. We may recommend KDAT lumber or PWT treated LVLs, depending on the project.
Curved composite and PVC decking needs cleaning but no routine wood staining. Leaves and debris should not sit on the surface. We explain care recommendations for the product selected.
